Um... 'All My Children' did it years ago. You're late to the party,

On Fox News "O'Reilly Factor" Thursday night, guest-host Monica Crowley,
filling in for Bill O'Reilly, went after "CBS Evening News" anchor Katie
Couric for her recent comments that the economic situation has made the
United States an "angry nation."
"Way to attract more viewers, Katie," Crowley said, asking, "Is this
another example of the elite left-wing media looking down on Americans or
is Katie right about the mood of the country?"
Crowley and Tim Graham, director of media analysis for the conservative
Media Research Center, attempted to argue that Couric's comments come only
as President Obama's approval ratings fall.
"I think it's one thing to say the country is angry," Graham said. "I
think that's fair. When she goes on to talk about how there's too much
disrespect, that's when you're beginning to see that whole idea of how
unfortunate that we would have people who would so publicly and angrily
disagree with President Obama."
"I'm wondering, Tim, where Katie Couric was and if her concern about an
angry nation when the left was crucifying President Bush as a war criminal
and Hitler, when Code Pink was in Condoleezza Rice's face, when there are
wall-to-wall, left wing, vicious attacks," Crowley responded. "Where was
she in that concern?"
"You know it seems to me that anybody who is an elite left wing liberal,
whether they are in the media like Katie Couric or not," Crowley
continued, "they are intent on smearing or tarring anybody who might
disagree with the liberal agenda."

I am a republican, albeit a frustrated one lately.
Keep in mind the Dow Jones opened at 8279 on January 20, 2009. It
closed today at 10428. I don't want to make Obama the rooster taking
credit for the sun coming up in the morning, but facts are facts. And
like it or not, Wall Street wanted and got the bailouts. McCain would
have had to do the same thing.
I may be a frustrated republican, but at least I can be objective.

http://www.latimes.com/news/nation-and-world/la-na-immigration30-
2009dec30,0,4277224.story?track=rss
The Obama administration is rallying allies to push for a package with
better border security and a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants
now in the U.S. The effort is sure to be a tough sell.
Reporting from Washington - With the healthcare battle still unfinished,
the Obama administration has been laying plans to take up an issue that
could prove even more divisive -- a major overhaul of the nation's
immigration system.
Senior White House aides privately have assured Latino activists that the
president will back legislation next year to provide a path to citizenship
for the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants living in the United
States.
In a recent conference call with proponents, White House Deputy Chief of
Staff Jim Messina, political director Patrick Gaspard and others delivered
the message that the White House was committed to seeing a substantial
immigration bill pass and wanted to make sure allies were prepared for the
fight.
In addition to the citizenship provision, the emerging plan will emphasize
efforts to secure U.S. borders against those trying to cross illegally.
But that two-track approach was rejected repeatedly in the past by
Republicans and other critics who insist that a border crackdown must
demonstrate its effectiveness before any action on citizenship is
considered.
Whatever proposal Obama puts forward will probably meet equally determined
opposition. Another complication is the calendar: Midterm elections are in
November, and polls show that the public is more worried about joblessness
and the fragile economy than anything else.
So embracing an immigration bill is a gamble for the White House, which
already has a packed agenda for 2010: economic recovery, global warming
legislation and tougher regulation of financial institutions.
No matter what the environment, immigration is a tough sell, said
Democratic pollster Geoff Garin.
"We know from a lot of experience that immigration reform has been and can
be a very polarizing issue. There are heated differences about whether
there ought to be some kind of pathway to citizenship for people who
entered the country illegally," he said.
"And my sense from the public-opinion research is people care more about
vindicating their position than they do about getting the issue solved."
Even so, the White House apparently has decided to press ahead.
In an effort to enlist the kind of business support that helped drive its
healthcare initiative, for example, administration officials have reached
out to the National Restaurant Assn., which represents an industry that
employs thousands of immigrants. Earlier this year, the new head of the
association, Dawn Sweeney, met with Cecilia Muñoz, a White House aide
involved in the issue, and expressed interest in cooperating.
"It's an extremely important issue for our members," said Sweeney, whose
group could exert grass-roots pressure on lawmakers.
As a candidate, Obama vowed to take up immigration during his first year
in office. That deadline will come and go. Further delay could anger
Latino voters, who came out in force for the president and congressional
Democrats in 2008.
No one anticipates that a core element of the Democratic base will defect
to the Republican Party in November. But even a significant drop in
turnout -- which often happens in nonpresidential elections -- could
frustrate Democratic efforts to preserve their congressional majority.
"The bulk of the people needing immigration reform are Latino," said Rep.
Raul M. Grijalva (D-Ariz.). "There's a level of disenchantment about where
we're going. . . . And if you don't give the Latino community a reason to
participate [in the elections], you weaken your base even more."
For an immigration bill to have a realistic shot of passing next year,
political analysts said, the particulars would have to be agreed upon by
the spring. A delay would increase the likelihood of the issue getting
derailed by the November elections.
Henry G. Cisneros, a Cabinet secretary in the Clinton administration who
took part in the recent immigration conference call with the Obama White
House, said: "It gets much more difficult as the year goes along. So
everyone has to be very sober about the prospects. But the president and
congressional leadership understand it's important to start the ball
rolling."
An immigration bill was introduced in the House earlier in the month, and
Sen. Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.), who chairs a subcommittee on
immigration, is heading the effort to cobble together a bipartisan
coalition in the Senate.
But Democrats may not have a lock on one prominent Republican who has
worked in the past to revamp the immigration system: Arizona Sen. John
McCain.
McCain backed President George W. Bush's failed attempt to overhaul
immigration in his second term. But he has not committed to supporting the
Obama bill, saying he worried the president would not endorse a temporary
guest-worker program.
Organized labor, an important part of the Democratic base, has voiced
opposition to a guest-worker program under which more immigrants could
enter the country on a temporary basis. Critics argue that there is no
effective system for ensuring that such workers will leave the country
when their permits expire.
"From everything that we hear right now, the temporary guest-worker
program won't be addressed in immigration reform. And unless that is an
essential part of the reform program, it's something that Sen. McCain
can't work on," said Brooke Buchanan, a spokeswoman for the Arizona
lawmaker.
The White House would not reveal its position on the guest-worker issue.
Should an immigration bill gain traction, White House Chief of Staff Rahm
Emanuel would probably be a central player in the negotiations.
As an aide to President Clinton, Emanuel co-wrote a memo on the political
dynamics of immigration. He and Ron Klain, now the top aide to Vice
President Joe Biden, wrote in 1994: "We must be seen as taking proper,
forceful steps to seriously address the immigration problem without
alienating the Hispanic and civil rights constituencies.
"Our goal is not to outdo the Republicans, rather to use our achievements
and proposals to prevent them from using this as a wedge issue against
us."
The former head of the Immigration and Naturalization Service, Doris
Meissner, recalled that Emanuel once phoned and berated her over a news
story about lax border enforcement in Arizona.
"This kind of press is killing us," Meissner quoted Emanuel as saying.
During the call, he instructed her to send border agents to the area
immediately. "He had no authority whatsoever to give me orders," Meissner
said.
But Emanuel was constantly pressing his colleagues in the Clinton White
House to push what he termed a "balanced" immigration policy -- including
enforcement and stepped-up grants of citizenship.

Viagra is a vasodilator that works as an enzyme to block a protein,
IIRC, compare to other vasodilators like nitro-glycerin,
Having a long term drug habit with an opiod doesn't help one's
cardiovascular system as well.

But how many older, canasta-playing women, would be called
"Faux-Socialite"? Kinda sniffs Trump.
Website guesses are "Ivana" and someone from one of the
new reality shows.

My stepdaughter and her friends, all 27, know *how* to play, and have
Canasta nights every week. Apparently it's making a come back.

BOSTON -- A Billerica man is accused of spanking his wife during an
argument that stemmed over his alleged excessive viewing of pornography
on the Internet.
Robert Noetzel, 47, pleaded not guilty to one count of assault and
battery with a dangerous weapon on Monday, according to the Lowell Sun.
Police said his wife, Sharon Noetzel, went to the police station to say
that her husband chased her in their home, pulled down her pants, and hit
her on her behind. She said the spankings left red marks and welts.
She threw her cell phone at him, but Robert Noetzel allegedly pushed his
wife down and began kicking her, the newspaper reported.
Noetzel was released on personal recognizance and is due back in court on
Feb. 3.

What's this, a Black man likes anal sex! No surprise, anal sex was invented
in Africa, by Africans, for Africans. It was then stolen by the Greeks, who
have gotten undeserved aclaim for their great ingenuity.

Lots of important stuff happened in 2009. A bunch of famous people died. A bunch
of banks almost died, but then Washington stepped in to make sure that Wall
Street's way of life will be preserved forever. Swine flu came along and freaked
everyone out (not to mention briefly endangered the air kiss). A
publicity-obsessed family earned the attention of a nation by feigning their
son's disappearance and launching an enormous Jiffy Pop into the sky.
Celebrities got together, cheated on their spouses, broke up, got back together,
had kids (or traveled to far-flung places to pick up kids), and checked into
rehab. Some managed to do all of the above with a camera crew following close
behind. Yes, 2009 has been quite a ride. What can we all expect to see happen in
2010? We took a few minutes to chat with Manhattan psychic Serena Stanley and
ask her about a few things that may or may not happen in 2010. Her insight into
the future—gratis!—is below.
Let's start off with something straightforward. What are the chances that Snooki
from MTV's Jersey Shore gets punched in the face by a guy—again?
I would say there's a 75 percent chance that she'll get punched in the face
again. But not this year. I feel like it'll be a few years from now.
Gotcha. Is there a chance Goldman Sachs be forced to defend itself against a
populist uprising in 2010 in which people storm their offices armed with guns?
Yes, I think so. But I think they're more worried about people who leave the
company turning on them. I think they may fire someone and he could get angry
and come back to get them. I actually have a sense that the whole scenario is
definitely possible. It just takes one crazy person to rally a whole bunch of
people.
That's grim! So is a job in Ruth Madoff's future?
No. But I feel that she's going to write a book. It'll be like the secrets of
the rich, and she'll make a fair amount of money.
Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner got married in October. Do you see a long and
happy marriage in their future?
I do feel that they're going to have a good future. I see things being great for
them for at least five to 10 years. They know each other pretty well and if they
didn't think they were going to make it, they wouldn't have gotten engaged in
the first place. I know that she's truly, truly in love with him and he's
amazingly in love with her. I think it's a great match. It's one of the few
celebrity matches I can say I feel good about it.
Are there some couples you're not quite as optimistic about?
I don't know too many of them by name, unfortunately. But there's Khloe
Kardashian and Lamar Odom, and believe it or not, I sense that they're going to
be fine. They've got a strong three years. After that, I don't feel so positive
about it. But, for now, I think they really enjoy each other. He's been looking
for a girl like her. And I feel like she's going to have a baby in the near
future.
Will Mischa Barton go to rehab in 2010?
No. She's going to try another new project early this year and is going to
become very motivated in her career. She's really going downhill right now and
facing a lot of emotional and spiritual attacks. She was this little ball of
sunlight and now I see a lot of darkness around her. She's just going through a
lot of emotional drama, and I believe it has to do with her family. I don't know
what exactly what it is, but there is some sort of turmoil and she's feeling a
lot of pain coming from her parents. She feels she doesn't fit in right now.
How about Courtney Love?
Yes, she's going to head to rehab this year, and it's going to work better for
her this time. I don't think she was really taking things seriously before. But
I feel good things for her. Her health also is going to get better. If she
doesn't make it to rehab for some reason, I don't see a lot of longevity in her
life and she'll be really sick if she doesn't.
What's the probability that a year from now Jesus Luz will be an unemployed
model living in Rio de Janeiro and making ends meet by working as a lifeguard on
Copacabana beach?
I don't think he'll ever go back to living as a lifeguard after his time with
Madonna.
Oh, sorry. I didn't mean to suggest he was a lifeguard in the past. I just
meant, well, where do you see his career going from here?
I don't think doors are going to be closed for him; I think they'll be opened. I
feel he'll be successful from this point on and will do quite well if he gets
out off the bed and beach.
Got it. What sort of ratings do you see for Tinsley Mortimer's upcoming reality
show? Feel free to use the Nielsen ratings scale, if you'd like.
I don't know who Tinsley Mortimer is. Is that a man or a woman?
Okay, let's skip that one. Any chance Olivia Palermo will "quit" her "job" at
Elle, swear off designer clothing, join the Peace Corps, and move to Southeast
Asia?
Say her name again?
Olivia Palermo.
What does she do? I don't know who she is.
Don't worry about it. You're not missing anything. How likely is it that Tom
Brady and Gisele Bundchen's baby will turn out to be unattractive?
Sometimes beautiful people can have ugly kids, but that won't be the case with
them. The baby will have very strong features, though, and he won't be as good
looking as his parents.
Let's talk about Lindsay Lohan and her fashion career. I kind of feel like she
owes something to the guy who was ousted as Emanuel Ungaro's CEO [Mounir
Moufarrige] recently. She pretty much cost him his job. Maybe she'll make it up
to him by putting him in her next movie?
I feel like she's going to try to make it up to him, but I don't think it's
going to work. Her efforts will be very short-lived. Sometimes when you're sick
and unhappy like she is, you feel better trying to help other people and it
helps you overcome your vices. She's in a bad place, but if she knew she had to
help someone else, I'm sure she'd snap out of it. She's a really smart girl,
very bright, witty and she has a great sense of humor. She's got the soul of an
old lady living in a young girl's body. With all that wisdom comes a lot of
grief.
Speaking of celebrity fashion, is there any chance Donald Trump will introduce
his own line of custom hair pieces à la Jessica Simpson and Paris Hilton?
I doubt it very seriously! I think his ego is too big to attach himself to
something like that. I believe he'll do very well financially this year, though.
That's a relief. I was worried about him! Is it possible that Ashley Dupre wins
a Pulitzer Prize for her New York Post column?
[Laughs] The way things are going today, if she got an award from anyone it
would be just for the publicity. It would be one big joke if she won a Pulitzer.
But she's straight and blunt. She's truthful. She's really a man in a woman's
body, so I guess that's a new perspective for readers.
Uh, what do you mean by that?
She's got a very strong male spirit even though she's a female.

http://content.usatoday.com/communities/Religion/post/2009/12/rick-warren-newsmaker-evangelicals-saddleback/1
Rev. Rick Warren may have gotten top votes from many directions as religion
newsmaker of the year (not me: I picked President Obama) but that hasn't
translated to mega-bucks for his home megachurch.
Now, Warren put out an "urgent" plea to the nation's sixth largest congregation,
Saddleback in Lake Forest, south of Los Angeles, for nearly $1 million -- by
Jan.1, no less -- to support and continue a banner year of ministry efforts from
Southern California to Africa.
With 10% of our church family out of work due to the recession, our expenses in
caring for our community in 2009 rose dramatically while our income stagnated.
Still, with wise management, we've stayed close to our budget all year. Then...
this last weekend the bottom dropped out.
On the last weekend of 2009, our total offerings were less than half of what we
normally receive - leaving us $900,000 in the red for the year, unless you help
make up the difference today and tomorrow.
Warren spells out very specifically where the money will go. The list includes:
Expanding food assistance for the hungry, increasing the number of counselors
and training for volunteers in numerous ministries; expanding help and
leadership training worldwide, and, of course, worship and evangelism to keep
all five Saddleback campuses thriving and bring in more believers.
Says the never-modest Warren:
It's obvious that your giving through your church family is providing more "bang
for the buck" than anything else you could support. It is no wonder that our
ministry was named the top religious newsmaker of 2009 as reported by Associated
Press.
Still, the public beg-a-thon that has overtones of televangelists of the past
crying for money to stay on the airwaves. To give the pastor his due, the
multi-millionaire author of The Purpose-Driven Life and a new book on hope
"reverse-tithes" -- he gives 90% of his income to the ministry.
But evidently there's no plan to scale back spending to meet actual income --
the kind of financial advice most of us have had hammered into our heads during
this recession.
